About the Game
Arch Fiends is a rule-lite, role-play-heavy vampire Larp. Players will take on the role of a vampire living in modern day Saint Louis. Each of our game sessions will be an in-world gathering of these vampires. Together our vampires will feud, form alliances, perform dark magic, argue about philosophy, and weep the loss of our humanity. Through all this we will work together to form complex, immersive, and emotionally meaningful stories.
The current plan is for this game to run about 2 years, with sessions every 3-4 months. Each session will have a small cost (~$20-30) to cover venue and other expenses. Players will not be required to attend every session. We want to be as flexible as possible.
Collaborative Storytelling
There are many different kinds of Larp and none of the terms are standardized, but if you had to define Arch Fiends, it would be best to call this an Emergent style Parlor Larp. This means that the emphasis of our game is on role-play, immersion, and collaborative storytelling.
Our characters will not have statistics that define our skills, and we will not roll dice to decide “what happens” in a conflict. Instead, whenever conflict arises between characters, everyone involved works together to decide which outcome makes for the best story, and then they put it into action!
You can think of it like kids playing pretend, but with the added benefit of our fully-formed adult brains allowing us to work together and with the purpose of telling an exciting and engaging story.
What is Vampire:
the Masquerade?
Vampire: the Masquerade began as a tabletop roleplaying game, but has found widespread popularity as a Larp setting! It is a game about the horror of power: the anxiety of living without it, the offenses of gaining it, and the compromises of keeping it.
The world of Vampire is deep and expansive, but the main points are…
Vampires are undead monsters who used to be human until they were embraced by another vampire. They never age, have strange abilities, and thirst for the blood of the living.
Every vampire is part of a Clan, a sort of family of vampires that loosely describe different vampire archetypes from pop-culture. Each Clan has different supernatural powers, attitudes, and horrific curses.
Vampiric society is feudal. Most cities are ruled by a Prince. The Prince divvies up territory amongst the powerful, appoints a Court to help them keep them in power, and enforces laws to keep the disempowered from causing trouble.
This Game is Not…
Something you can win or lose: Our characters will pursue their desires and ambitions, but our goal as players is to tell a good story. And a good story requires ups and downs. If Luke Skywalker got everything he wanted, he’d be the best Imperial Pilot in the Galaxy. In the name of collaboration, sometimes our characters can’t get what they want, but that just gives them the opportunity to try something new or perhaps… seek revenge.
An excuse to be an asshole: Our characters are monsters, but we are not. Players are expected to be aware of the people underneath our fellow characters and play using our safety and consent rules in mind.
Your Organizer
Hello! My name is Zach Going and I’m your Organizer and Storyteller. I have been a huge fan of both Vampire: the Masquerade and larp for several years. In that time, my wife and I have created and run several one-off home larps for friends and I am very excited to combine this experience with my love of all things vampiric, here in my adoptive home of Saint Louis!
My day job is in politics, I really love the X-Men, and my dog is a perfect angel.
